HELP THE MICHIGAN LUPUS FOUNDATION BY JOINING THE GLOBAL DAY OF PHILANTHROPY #GIVINGTUESDAY

Giving Tuesday is Tuesday, November 28, 2023. #GivingTuesday is a Global Day of Philanthropy for the individual power of generosity to spotlight important charitable causes, like our effort to end lupus. Non-profits like ours depend on donations from communities all across Michigan in order to help increase lupus awareness, provide support resources and financial aid, fund research with the goal of finding a cure, and more. We are proud to be a part of the movement to make the world a better place.

Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger, showing up for an issue or those you care about, or making a donation, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give. You can help the Michigan Lupus Foundation and join the #GivingTuesday movement in a variety of ways:

  1. DONATE time, money or stock.

  2. SHARE what our cause means to you and why you support the foundation to encourage friends and family to join in creating real impact on November 28. Make sure to use the hashtag #GivingTuesday and tag us so we can share as well.

  3. Overwhelm the world with GOOD. Let’s rally together to build stronger communities all year long!

As another year comes to a close, your donation can make a world of difference in the fight against lupus. Fulfilling our mission wouldn’t be possible without the help of generous contributions from the community. Two-thirds of the U.S. population does not know what lupus is, making it our mission to increase awareness about this debilitating disease. Your donations help the Michigan Lupus Foundation aid in the physical, emotional and financial impacts of lupus.

Thanks to your support in 2023, this year the Michigan Lupus Foundation:

  • Provided emergency financial aid to over 25 warriors due to the high medical cost of living with the disease

  • Held over 20 virtual support groups to connect lupus patients with others who understand what they are going through

  • Held awareness walks on both the east and west side of the state

  • Partnered with prominent organizations for educational symposiums and events across Michigan

  • Advocated for state and federal funding in support of lupus research to help find a cure

  • Donated to national research efforts

  • Supported legislation in benefit of the patient experience with insurance, medications, and disability rights

  • Spoke at over 30 local, community and statewide events to help spread lupus awareness

  • Established and awarded our first student scholarship

  • Participated on several national panels to represent the patient perspective

  • Raised over $100,000 in support of our mission to help improve the quality of life for those living with lupus through support, education and research with the goal of finding a cure.

While we have accomplished a lot to be proud of this year, the fight against lupus is a Herculean task. Join us by supporting the 14,000 Michiganders who face lupus head on every single day of the year.

About Lupus

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the body to attack its own healthy tissues and organs. It can affect any part of the body causing widespread pain and inflammation. Common symptoms include crippling fatigue, fever and joint pain. Lupus affects each person differently and may go into periods of flares and remissions. More people have lupus than cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, sickle-cell anemia, and cystic fibrosis combined. It is estimated that between 322,000 and 1.5 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with this disease. Lupus primarily affects young women between the ages of 15-45 years old and occurs more frequently in women of African American, Hispanic, or Asian descent. There is currently no cure for lupus.
