Welcome to the Lupus Alliance of America, Michigan Indiana Affiliate.

This website is presented to provide you with information and resources to help you better understand and manage lupus.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that is hard to diagnose, difficult to manage, and if not treated can become life threatening. In simple terms, lupus develops when the body becomes "allergic to itself." There is no cure for lupus. Lupus affects adult women 10 times more frequently than men. Lupus is more prevalent than sickle cell anemia, cerebral palsy and cystic fibrosis combined, yet it is the least known of all major diseases.

It's That Time Of Year...

As the holiday season gets under way, we hope that you will remember us in your charitable giving. Your donations allow us to host peer groups, host our annual symposium, offer subsidized counseling with our master's level social worker Donna Oram, as well as offer a vast resource network to those in need. We appreciate all of your donations throughout the year and we hope that your holiday season is filled with love, friendship, good health, and time with family.

Congratulations Go Out To...

At our Make a Change 4 Lupus Symposium on Saturday, October 22, 2011, we awarded three very deserving individuals with awards. Loretta Mitchell received the Angela Faye Riles Spirit Award for Lifetime Achievement for all of the work that she has done on our behalf! Since 2004, she has raised over $17,000 for the LAAMI and she is an active volunteer. April Foley received the Angela Faye Riles Spirit Award for Volunteer of the Year 2011 for all of the work that she has done to benefit the LAAMI. She has accumulated more than 600 volunteer hours since early 2008 and is always at each event with a smile and a hug for everyone! Tyler Foley also received the Angela Faye Riles Spirit Award for Volunteer of the Year 2011. Since 2009, Team Tyler has raised more than $5,700 for the LAAMI. Tyler has also put in more than 200 volunteer hours for the organization! Thank you to all three of these wonderful volunteers! We love and appreciate you!
